Samurai Order & the Internal Martial Arts
Answers on our school and why internal martial arts still matters today.
Why you guys called "Samurai Order" as a Kungfu Online School?
We represent the greatest power of the Internal Martial Arts of Wudang — yet we also know we live on this Earth, categorized as human beings, not as citizens of any specific nation. So we share what we learn and treasure with all of humanity.
"Samurai" is a fitting start, tied to our founder, Master Chew. He trained in Niten Ichi-ryū (二天一流) when he first began martial arts — a style where the two hands holding dual weapons represent the Sun and the Moon. Not so surprising it matches Tai Chi's Yin and Yang perfectly.
"Order" represents the monastic culture shared across Chinese — and more broadly Asian — tradition, where people in monastery like Wudang, gather to discuss the Dao (道, "The Way") and devote their life and spirit to it. We live as monk class, live with "the Order."
What is Internal Martial Arts?
Internal Martial Arts is a distinction from External Martial Arts that most people are more familiar with.
External Martial Arts train the muscles primarily, so practitioners can produce heavy power through strength. Internal Martial Arts train the Chi primarily, so practitioners can master their own body.
Internal Martial Arts focus on the organs working together, improving basic health so the body grows strong naturally.
I'm not interested in fighting anyone, why should I train Internal Martial Arts?
Internal Martial Arts isn't only about fighting.
As we mentioned, it gives you a structure to restore your natural vitality — the way human body was designed to work — by strengthening the Chi within you, so you can live without chronic pain, stagnant blood flow, poor digestion, sleep problem, or mental fog.
All of these come from being weak internally. We choose to emphasize the health benefits, rather than "how to master your Chi and explode it into humans so you can win MMA."
We'd like to strengthen what you naturally already have, and help you live a healthier life, enjoying it with the people you care about.
Ziwu Chaining Spear
The Wudang Spear style Master Chew carries, and how it came to be.
I'm interested in your style! What style is your spear called?
The style of Master Chew is called "Ziwu Spear". Ziwu (子午) literally means the North-South Meridian Line.
In martial geometry, it represents the absolute central vertical axis passing down the middle of your body—from the crown of your head (Baihui) to the groin/perineum (Huiyin)—and extending forward toward your opponent's center line.
In shorts, it means Thrust into the middle line and lockin onto the throat.
So the complete name is "The Ziwu Chokehold Spear (子午锁喉枪)".
I know Ziwu Spear, yet why Master Chew's spear is a little different?
Originally, the Ziwu Spear was the "Ziwu Chokehold Spear." Our Grand Master, Zhong Xueyong (钟学勇), altered it for one of his most prominent disciples, Xiao Zijie(肖资杰), to suit his ultra-aggressive, unapologetic straightforward attitude in the pursue of The Way of Martial Art.
Xiao Zijie is the senior of Master Chew, passed on his aggressive-altered version to Master Chew, so his style is that altered version.
This altered, aggressive and successive style was officially named by Grand Master Zhong: the "Ziwu Chaining Spear (子午连环枪)."
